Now it's really taking shape...
I spent yesterday laying the first few courses of the base of the oven. A very pleasing moment....it's now taking shape.
I let the first few courses dry overnight and the next step is to build on top of that until the oven dome is finally finished....hopefully by the weekend.
I've been using Victas Outdoor Oven Cement, which although very expensive, does provide a gas tight seal and sets very quickly...normally within a couple of hours, so the build can progress fairly quickly.
Very pleased with the results so far....
Looks a bit messy at the moment but will improve

Spent a happy hour with the disc cutter, cutting bricks in half

Five courses completed
Until next time....
It is now really beginning to look like a pizza oven! Progress has also seemed to be very swift, good job.
ReplyDeleteI had no idea there was such a thing as 'oven cement', I guess there are always people in the building industry out there trying to solve all of lifes little problems :)
I am very much enjoying watching your progress, keep up the good work.
I'm doing my homework as we speak and enjoyed your blog, one of the big dilemmas for me is the choice of dome – refactored mould vs firebrick vs puddled clay – I see you opted for brick – simple question possibly but were these are a standard clay brick?
